Defex: An online Defect Project Management System
DCODE GROUP have been working with our clients in the building and construction industry to develop a Defect/Project Management System. The solution was based on a need to develop a cost-effective project management tool that allowed tasks to be linked to plans - the result is Defex - now released in Beta!
At DCODE GROUP, we specialise in custom software development. Our day-to-day role is to identify opportunities to implement technology in businesses to gain significant efficiencies and improvements in outputs by "systematizing" business processes. However the solution is not always the most "visible" option. As such, we spend a lot of time evaluating alternate approaches to ensure that we make a considered recommendation to the client.
Part of our analysis can often be the development of concepts that take the core elements of the client's requirements and put them into a prototype to evaluate the effectiveness of the approach. Defex was the result of trying to address an issue in the building/construction industry - but at the prototype stage, we were confident that we had a product ready for a wider audience.
Defex is based around a Task Management Solution. Tasks are added to Defex via desktop, tablet or mobile and then managed through to completion. The system allows for the allocation of tasks to a contractor and the assignment of a due date. However, Defex goes beyond a simple task management solution by associating tasks with plans/drawings. In this way Defex can allow a user to identify a task/issue and relate it to a precise position on a map/drawing - adding significant clarity to the approach.
Once the tasks are added to a solution, we also provide a working task board to help get an overview/summary of outstanding tasks on the project at any time:
Defex has been undergoing trials with a number of clients in the building & construction industry over the past few months - and so far feedback has been very positive!
